Death19 December 1717He died on 19 December 1717 in Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, Paul Prindle says "It seems certain that he was the Elisha, son of Elisha and 'Elizabeth' Holly, who died 19 December 1717 (Stamford Town Records, vol. 1, p. 138). There is no record of a marriage by Elisha Holly prior to that with Rebecca Bishop, or of the death of a wife Elizabeth, or of the birth of a son prior to the 31 October 1717 birth of the subject Elisha. It appears obvious that the clerk, in recording this 19 December 1717 death, made an error in writing the mother's name."1

Biography

Birthbetween 1793 and 1800Daniel Newman Holly was born between 1793 and 1800 in Connecticut.1
Census14 September 1850He appeared in the census 14 September 1850 at Boarding House in Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Daniel is listed as: as Newman, age 50, cooper. The boarding house is run by Coles Weeks, age 50, b. NY. 25 residents. The residents are mostly all laborers or coopers. Since this was run by Coles Weeks, I wondered if this could be the boarding house for Davenport & Weeks Rolling and Wire Mills in the Roxbury Stillwater area, started in 1825 by Theodore Davenport and Jonathan Weeks. Davenport was the 1st President of the Stamford Savings Bank. However, halfway down the next page, after more sections of coopers and laborers, there is an entry for Supt. of Dye Mill, Charles Barnes.2
Death19 January 1853He died on 19 January 1853 in Darien, Fairfield, Connecticut, listed in Town Records as "Newman Holly, age 60, white, Cooper, Place of Birth blank, Residence Darien, Cause of Death Strangulated Hernia." Listed in Darien First Congregational Church Records as "Daniel Newman Holly, Church: None, 20 Jan, age 55, Rupture." Barbara Kaye has him listed on Stamford Families website, with parents unknown. This is not necessarily the same person as the one living in 1850 at the boarding house, but both are listed as cooper. David Holly lived in Darien around 1853, and was a cooper also, and had a son named Newman. Since the two sources each list a different age at death, it suggests that a close family member was not available to provide accurate information.1,3,4

Parents

Family: Josiah Mead (d. 1762)

DaughterAbigail Mead+

Biography

NoteProblem: If Abigail was born about 1725 (Spencer shows her as the youngest of 12 children of John and Abigail (Banks) Marshall born from 1700-1725), she might have married around 1745, and could not have had Nathaniel in time for him to have Smith in 1756 as shown on town records.
Birthabout 1725Abigail Marshall was born about 1725.
MarriageJosiah Mead and she were married, date unknown
Death1787She died in 1787 based on the Bible page in the pension application of her grandson John Mead. It is difficult to read.1
