Champion was an iron-hulled side wheel steamer, built in 1859 in Wilmington, Delaware. Specs: 234 x 31 feet, 1419 gross tons. Carried 55 passengers and crew. It was sunk on 7 Nov 1879, due to a collision with the sailing ship Lady Octavia, with 28 casualties.
