Biography

Birthbetween 1785 and 1794Deborah was born between 1785 and 1794 in Pennsylvania. I searched the Baptisms of the Plainfield Church for a Deborah born through 1800, and there were none listed.1
Marriageabout 1802George Steinmetz and she were married about 1802 Marriage assumed based on census and baptism records.
Census1820She appeared in the census 1820 in Lower Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Deborah is listed as: Indexed as Jebey Stemits.
1 male 10-16
2 females under 10
2 females 10-16
1 female 26-45

Neighbors are Benssel Bartholamay, George Amrod, William Major, Henry A. Smith, Nicholas Wagener, Joseph Plots.

This line is in the fold, and very pale. However, the D looks more like the D's in Daniel and David, than J's in John and Jacob on the same page.

Other Northampton County Steinmetz in 1820:
Plainfield Twp: Peter Stonemetz
Moore Twp: Widow Stinementz
Bushkill Twp: Philip Stinemets
Lower Nazareth: George Steinmetz
Census1830She appeared in the census 1830 in Lower Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Deborah is listed as: Listed as Deborah Staimets, image 3/32, with 1 female, 40-49, and one female 80-89.

Neighbors are Peter Holland, Joseph Jones, Henry Johnson, Godfrey Michal, Jacob Bartholomy, Joseph Smith, Charles Smith, George Kutz, John Florey.

In 1830 there are Steinmetz in Plainfield, Bushkill, Moore and Lehigh Townships.
Census-not found1840Deborah has not been found on the census of 1840 Northampton County, Pennsylvania, It appears she was no longer a head of household in 1840. In the nearby area, there is Peter Steinmetz in Forks and Philip Stametz in Plainfield.
Census1860She appeared in the census 1860 at Lehigh Ward in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Deborah is listed as: Debora Stonemetz, in the household of Sam'l C. Norton (age 39, Cabinet maker, born in NJ) and his wife Elenor (age 26, b. PA) and their son Willie (1) [note: error, this was really a female, Lillie, who married Frank Lerch)]
Debora is listed as age 79, cannot read or write.

Is this the same Debora?

According to the Easton Express, Samuel, or Clement as he was usually listed, died at age 56, 10 May 1890. His wife Elenora d. 15 Nov 1899, in Easton, at age 62. Her parents were David and Mary Ann [really Margaret] Vacht [really Wack], of Upper Mt Bethel, both deceased. Her surviving daughter was Mrs. Frank J. Lerch of Easton. So I do not see a relationship here.
Image 34 of 1452
Death1861She died in 1861 in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, The Argus newspaper had two death notices as follows:
"Steinmetz, Mrs. George. Wife of George Steinmetz. Died August 6, 1861, aged 65 years."

"Stonemetz, Deborah, died September 3, 1861, aged 78 years."

Findagrave website for Easton Cemetery has an entry for Deborah Steinmetz:
Birth: 1787
Death: Aug 1861 (aged 73-74)
Plot E-189

Birthdate for Mrs. George Steinmetz would work out to 1796.
Birthdate for Deborah Stonemetz: 1783

Based on children born shortly after 1800, the birthdates of 1783 or 1787 fit better. There is no entry on Findagrave for a Deborah Stonemetz.

There was a Lower Mount Bethel census for this year also, but no Steinmetz any spelling.

The only other 2 Steinmetz (all spellings) in Northampton County in 1800 were George in Williams Twp and Philip in Penn Twp.
