See Newport Mercury, 28 May 1904, p. 8, Hist. and Gen. Notes, some notes on early Barkers. Says James's grandfather lived at Harwich, County Esses, England.
Birthabout 1622James Barker was born about 1622 in Southwold, Sussex, England. Findagrave lists his birth 1617-1622 with baptism in Harwich, Essex. Wikipedia lists it in 1622, with baptism in Southwold, Suffolk.

Immigration1636He immigrated in 1636 to England Genealogical notes in Newport Mercury says James immigrated with his father, when he was 17, in 1636, in company with Nicholas Easton and others. His father supposedly died during the voyage.

However, Nicholas Easton supposedly came on the Mary & John, 24 March 1633/4. James is not listed on the passenger list, but the list is only 60-70% complete, according to the Mary and John Clearinghouse.1
