Obituary24 January 191224 January 1912, Westfield, Union County, New Jersey, Westfield Leader Obituary:. Joseph S. Ferris, aged 56 years, passed away at his home Embree Crescent, on Monday night at midnight, after an illness of about ten days. Mr. Ferris has been a resident of Westfield many years, and the following tribute from a close friend is given:

"In the passing away of this man, the whole town is the poorer. No more genial soul ever lived. In manners he combined the grace of Chesterfield, and the spirit of Sir Philip Sidney. He was at the head of one of the stores of the great Colgate Company, of New York. Trusted and greatly beloved by his employees after a testing of more than forty years. In his church, the First Methodist, his devotion was expressed by his liberality and constant attendance. He was the light of every social event. His value to his family cannot be expressed in our feeble speech; as husband and father he was all, seemingly that he could be. Embree Crescent can never be the same after his exit.

"His generation will rise up and call him blessed."

Mr. Ferris is survived by a widow and two sons, Seymour Ferris and Herbert Ferris, and one daughter, Miss Marion Ferris.

The funeral services will be conducted at the family residence by his pastor, Dr. A.W. Hayes, assisted by Dr. C.M. Anderson, of Plainfield, at 7:30, Thursday evening.

Interment will be made in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, on Friday.
