Biography

Research NoteFindhorn River Valley location Location of McQueens in Scotland. The McQueens of the Inverness / Nairn / Moray area seem to have come into the area by at least the 1500's and perhaps before. The name in those early days was Mac Sweyn, which became McQueen or MacQueen over time. The major branch of the family was located at Corrybrough, in Moy parish. Various branches spread out up the Findhorn River, and east to towns and villages along the River Spey, such as Grantown on Spey amd Cromdale.

Of the three known children of Donald and Janet McPhail, James was baptized at Moy, while Anne and Donald, Jr. were baptized at Ardclach. So Donald may have moved the family north along the river. They may have lived in Dulsie, and by the 1841 census, remaining family members were in Dunearn.

Ardclach is about 20 miles north along the river from Moy. Dulsie and Dunearn are villages, or clusters of houses, in Ardclach parish.
Research Note17551755. Another researcher, Lynda Gear Buxton, has Donald's parents as possibly John McQueen who married Jean Rose 12 Aug 1755 in Ardclach.

Birthabout 1770Donald McQueen was born about 1770 in Scotland.
Marriageabout 1790He and Janet McPhail were married about 1790 in Nairnshire, Scotland, This may have been her second marriage because the parish baptism record for their son James lists her as Jannet Macphail Bellimore.
