Herbert E. Kilpatrick Sr., 60, of 179 Main St., Glendon, was found dead this morning in the Best Market at Fifth and Northampton streets.

Northampton County Deputy Coroner Fred L. Ashton said death apparently was caused by a heart attack. Mr. Kilpatrick, who was a night watchman and janitor at the market for the last six years, died about 6:30 a.m., Ashton said. He was found at 7:30 a.m. when the manager, William Shaw, opened the market.

Mr. Kilpatrick formerly had been employed for 33 years as a stitcher at the Victor Balata & Textile Belting Co.

Born March 4, 1898 in Easton, he was a son of Mrs. Emma Kilpatrick, Wilson, and the late Byron Kilpatrick. He was married to the former Katie Pyatt.

He served in France with the Army during World War I. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Easton.

Surviving in addition to his widow and mother, are four sons, Herbert Jr., Wilson; Eugene, Easton; and Merton and James, both at home; five daughters, Mrs. Georgianna Webb, West Monroe, La.; Mrs. Arlene Abel, Belfast; and Mrs. Shirley Ehrie, Mrs. Catherine Peer, and Mrs. Lois Frank, all of Easton; a brother, Robert, Avona Heights; a sister, Mrs. Edna Leauber, Palmer Township, and 13 grandchildren. A brother, Byron, died Thursday, Nov. 6.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Shillinger Funeral Home, Easton.

The funeral notice was published in the issue of Nov 18. The Rev. Robert Nelson, pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, officiated. Interment was in Northampton Memorial Shrine. A veteran's service was held at the grave by the Rice-Ebner Post, American Legion. The pallbearers were Raymond Hunt, Frank Leauber, Edwin Koehler, John Shannon and Howard and Russell Kilpatrick.

He and his wife, the former Judy A. Christian, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Merton retired from the former Riegel Papermill. He enjoyed following high school sports, especially Easton. Surviving in addition to his wife Judy are three sons, Merton Jr. and his wife Holly, of East Bangor, Dean, of Easton, and David and his wife Shiela, of Oklahoma; three daughters, Patti, of Easton, Sherry, of North Carolina, and Sandy, of Bethlehem; two sisters, Shirley Ehrie, of Wind Gap, and Lois Kilpatrick, of Wilson Borough; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Herbert Jr., Eugene and James, and three sisters, Katherine, Georgianna "Honey" and Arlene. A memorial service will be held at 11am Wednesday in River of God Fellowship Church, 813 Reynolds Street, Easton. Arrangements are by the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc. Wilson Borough. Alice R. Christian, 84, formerly of Easton, died Saturday, Aug. 5, in Gracedale County Home in Upper Nazareth Township.

She formerly was a nurse's aide at the Gracedale County Home.

Born Feb. 14, 1914, in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Matilda Kleinle Kriel.

Her husband, Leland Christian, died earlier.

She is survived by three sons, Russell L. of Bethlehem Township, Leland of Danielsville, Pa., and Daniel of Alpha, N.J.; two daughters, Barbara Maragulia of Palmer Township and Judy A. Kilpatrick of Easton, 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A son, Charles Tettemer, died earlier.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the River of God Fellowship Church, 313 Reynolds St., Easton. There are no calling hours. A private burial will be in Hay's Cemetery in Easton. The Strunk Funeral Home, 32 W. Berwick St., Easton, is in charge of arrangements.

Kilpatrick, 58 years old, of 213 North 12th street, died at Easton Hospital last evening, at 6:45. Mr. Kilpatrick suffered a paralytic stroke on Friday and was admitted to the hospital on Saturday. He had been in good health until the time that he was stricken.

Mr. Kilpatrick was born at Freemansburg and resided in Easton nearly all his life. He was an electrician and was employed by the Lehigh Valley Transit Company at the Easton shop. Deceased was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran church and Easton Local, No. 169, Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees of America. Mr. Kilpatrick is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Kilpatrick; six children, Herbert and Mrs. Frank Leauber, of Easton, Howard, of Wilson borough; and Russell, Byron F. and Robert, at home; two sisters, Mrs. S. A. Wixon, of Wilson, and Miss Martha Kilpatrick, of Easton, and five grandchildren.1

J. Heilman, pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran church, conducted the services and interment was made in the Easton Heights Cemetery. The pallbearers were C.F. Walters, J.F. McRoberts, S. Charles, C.L. Werkheiser, W.O. Smith and W. Kindt, all members of Easton Local, No. 169, Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees of America.3

Mrs. Kilpatrick was a daughter of the late Howard and Delina Flint and had lived most of her life in Easton. Since 1956, she made her home with a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kilpatrick, at the West Easton address.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Easton. During World War II, she worked at the old Chipman Knitting Mills.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Bertha Pamark of Philadelphia; 20 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Shillinger Funeral Home.3
