Adam Walter, a retired farmer, residing in Easton, died at 6 o'clock Monday morning after an illness of about eight weeks of a complication of ailments in his seventy-first year. The deceased was a native of Easton and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walter, and is survived by a widow and these brothers and sisters: Stephen and Daniel Walter, of Easton, Benjamin Walter of Harmony, N.H., Mrs. Adam Moyer of Tiffin, O., and Mrs. George W. Tinsman, of Elizabeth, N.J. Three children also survive, Mrs. Jacob Bowers, of Akron, O., Maurice Walter, Cleveland, O., and Mrs. Ursula Kessler, of Easton.

Mr. Walter was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in Troop D, Twelfth Pennsylvania cavalry. He was a member of Arndt's Church, Forks township.

Deceased fought in the Civil War as a member of the Forty-seventh Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was a member of Forks Church, this county.

Survivors were children: Jeremiah Walters, Mrs. Lydia Price, Mrs. H. G. Mutchler; brothers and sisters: Adam, Benjamin, Daniel, Stephen, Mrs. Adam Major, Mrs. George D. Tinsman.

Obituary17 September 191817 September 1918, Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, Easton Express Obituary:. Stephen Walter, 78 years old, a well known Civil War Veteran and lifelong resident of Easton, died at 6:30 o'clock last night at his home No. 31 South Seventeenth Street, from the infirmities of old age. Mr. Walter had been in ill health for the past twenty-one months, but had been bedfast only six weeks. 

When the Civil War broke out he enlisted with the 147th Pennsylvania Volunteers with whom he served for three years and then enlisted in the Third Hancock Veteran Volunteers, being advanced to a corporal. 

For nearly forty years he was in the employ of Jacob Hay and Sons. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and Lafayette Post No. 217 G.A.R.

Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Phillip F. Sr. and Margaret (Metz) Laughlin.

An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a former member of the Franklin Hose Company and the Pioneer Athletic Association.

Survivors: Wife; sons, Larry and Barry, both of Easton, and Wade B. Jr., of Phillipsburg; daughters, Margaret A., Judith A., Annette M and Cindy L. Christian, all of Phillipsburg; Jane B. of Hereford and Sherry L. Mott of Easton; brother William and a sister, Dot Gary, both of Easton; stepsons, David VanHorn of Allentown, Keith Cressman of Easton and Timothy Gerhard of Plainfield Township; 24 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Strunk Funeral Home, 602 W. Berwick St., Easton.
