This may be the same Lesh who moved to South Side next to John Koken, or perhaps this is the father.

In the St. John's Lutheran (New Williams) Church records (p.388, image 106/120) there is a death of Elizabeth Lesh Peifer, widow of John Philip Prefer. Elizabeth was the daughter of Jacob Lesh and Hanah. Elizabeth was born 12 May 1805,and died 6 Jul 1897, at the age of 92 years, 1 month, 24 days.

Living next to two Koken families, Samuel and John. Could Samuel be a brother? Too old to be his son, and looks like the Samuel who wrote the will and died in 1888. Therefore, perhaps Louisa Diehl was his second wife? and the older boys were his sons by an earlier marriage?

This census shows William owning property, but I was not able to find a record of a property transaction after 1843.

An entry on Rootsweb, using a source called American Genealogical Lending Library, V237-6 "Pennsylvania Records" microfilm, lists the birth date of 15 Jun 1843, death of 6 Jan 1870, age 27 y, 6 m, 20 d. Buried in Raubsville Cemetery. Flag. Son of George W. and Mary Koken.

Fackenthal's compilation of Raubsville Cemetery completed 26 Mar 1920, has the same listing:
Son George W. and Mary, 16 Jun 1843 - 6 Jan 1870, age 27-6-20. Flag on grave.

And in Fackenthal's Soldiers of the Civil War compilation, on page 229, the same data is provided.

There is a death notice in the Argus in Jan of 1870" Died, at Raubsville, Samuel Cogen, 6 Jan 1870, 23 years."3

In the name of God amen. I Peter Kooken of the Township of Moore, County of Northampton, State of Pennsylvania, yeoman, being weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, prased by the Lord, calling unto mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of the Almighty God that gave it and my body to the Earth, to be buried in a decent Christian like manner, at the discretion of my executors; and respecting such worldly estate and affects where with it pleases God to bless me with this life, I dispose of them in manner following, that is to say, First, I give and bequeath to Mariah, my dearly and beloved Wife, one cow, two beds and bedsteads, one tinplated stove, one table, the choise of the two, one Chest and what is therein, and for the value of fifty dollars worth of house and kitchen furniture. First my sons John the eldest, Henry the second, Jacob the third, Mathias the fourth, and daughter Mariah -- the youngest, my son Henry, is to have an equal share of my estate, after my wife's death he is to be the only one that can receive it from my executors, and no other shall have power to receive the same for him or in his name, whatsoever. My son Mathias is to receive one bed and one cow after my decease besides the share above said, and my daughter Mariah is to have one bed and cow after my decease besides the equal share. And I do hereby nominate my sons John and Jacob, Joint Executors of this my last will and testament, and I do authorize my said Executors to make lawful Conveyance of my land as above mentioned. And lastly I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disanul all former wills made by me declaring this to be my last will and testament. I think this is the correct Samuel, based on age (although he is young, perhaps was left something from his father), and the fact that the 1850 census lists him as head of family, with real estate.

John Koken and Samuel Koken together bought a property at Sheriff's Sale. I don't know which John Koken this would be:

--John Jr., 1814 - ?, born in Moore Township, son of John 1781
--John 1827 - ?, son of Rosanna (and Joseph?)
--John 1835 - ?, appears in the 1880 Lower Saucon census as a boarder
--John 1839-1892, Mert's 3rd gg., son of George William
--John Jacob Coken, 1855 - 1924, son of Jacob Coken and Diana Fox

The John in the property record would have to be at least 21 in 1846, i.e., born before 1825, which only really leaves the first two, unless there is another John not known about.

Property Record22 October 1851Samuel was involved in a property transaction on 22 October 1851 in Williams Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. John sells to Samuel Koken, for $200, his half of a house and lot which they had purchased together at Sheriff's sale on 25 Aug 1846. The property consisted of 2 acres, bounded by property of Levi Raub, David Saylor and Michael Halpin. On the lot stood a frame house one and a half stories high, 15 feet by 20 feet, with a one story kitchen attached, 15 feet square.

Looking at the property owners on the 1860 map, this is in Raubsville, on the River road.

This is recorded in Book E8, page 162.

Living between William and Mary Koken (ages 61 and 65), and William's son John Koken and Sarah Moser Koken (ages 32 and 28).

With 15 years difference in age between Samuel and William, they may be brothers. However, if Rosanna is William's mother, she couldn't be the wife of Joseph in the 1810 census (unless she was his 2nd wife), so I still tend to think she is the widow of an older brother.

This is the Samuel who died in 1888.

The pages are confusing, but since 1819 is not specified on her record, I am using 1820, unless I find something else supporting 1819.

The sponsors were Mathias Gogen and Maria Bower. Therefore it appears that Mathias was still single in 1820.2
Property Extract4 April 1822Matthias was involved in a property transaction on 4 April 1822 in Williams Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. when he purchased a lot from Gabriel Ralston of Philadelphia (who was represented by his attorney James Ralston of Bath), for $200. The property was located on the Delaware River, and was a portion of the 21 acre property that Ralston had purchased from Jeremiah Piersol and his wife, on 20 Apr 1806.

This is the first connection I have seen between the Moore Township Kokens and Williams Township.

Jeremiah Piersoll was a commission merchant of Philadelphia. He bought up property from the Penns around 1800 in Easton, in the area once called San Domingo, between Third and Fourth streets, between Lehigh St and the river, which was a shipping and wharfage district. Piersoll converted much of this land into building lots. Piersoll also owned the Ferry rights from Third Street to South Side. In 1805 Piersoll purchased property in "Snufftown", later Williamsport. Part of this property was sold to John Ralston, who converted it into town lots and sold to various purchasers. I don't know if perhaps Ralston had also purchased property further down the river from Piersoll, or if this property Matthis bought was in Williamsport.
